Game 1258: wonderhero, Deadlime in 'Rescue from the Mines'

- I don't know why I chose this mission. Now, after I read the aim I realized that Marsec Corp can force a draw by getting to a hostage first, kill him and then run and hide.
So why should I bother to rescue all hostages risking to lose the game ? Posted by

- I agree this mission has some balancing issues. We were discussing this recently in another thread, but I can't exactly remember what conclusion we came to.
I had a feeling this mission request was set up by you Wonderhero, and I was very curious to see if you had some sort of clever plan. Apparently not, eh? :/ Posted by

- I rectify there will be no draw.
I remember that in this mission Marsec Corp had no explosive to destroy the door of prison. I think you can equip your units with grenades, right ?
So the plan to escape all prisoners is failed from the start.
To hunt all your units all over the map is almost impossible, because you have no interest to attack any more. So, after 30 turns expired I will lose :) Posted by

- Yeah in the original the walls were all solid, idestructible. Each cell had a door which could only be blown by a 'special' explosive which only the Rescuers could purchase.
In this version, yes, I can buy grenades and just blow up the doors or walls and kill the prisoners. The only problem is having to guess which cells the prisoners are in. Posted by

- Looking at the game stats, out of the last 5 RFTM missions, the hostage takers have won all of them. I'm going to ban explosives for side 2.

- That's not entirely true, I won my game as the rescuers but the the game decided I had lost. Also has anyone finished a game with the new deployment zones? Does the second deployment zone come with an escape hatch too.
I'm very much against the hostage takers winning by opening up the cells, but has anyone actually won by doing this yet? Posted by

- It looks like there is no escape hatch. There should be one if we are trying to accurately copy the original LS version.
Banning grenades for the Guards seems harsh since this mission has weak walls, so grenades are especially deadly. Still, I can't see any other way around it though, so I suppose you must. I suppose they could still use Nerve Gas and Smoke grenades.
How about giving the Guards an extra unit, bumping their numbers up to 8 to compensate for the disadvantage of having no grenades? Posted by

- Not necessary. The game is unbalanced now because:
There is 90% chance a prisoner to be in one of that 3 bottom prisons.
To escape him from prison you must to fight first. Let say 2 hostages become soldiers (although is too risky cause if one dies you have to hunt all guard units to win). 12x3 = 36 credits will be waste for 3 grenades to destroy the gates of prisons. So 7 Laser units with (230-36)/7 = 28 credits each, against 7 guards units with 45 credits each. What balance is this 28 vs 45 ? Posted by

- When I said "not necessary" it was for what Retro ask.
Yes will be a option to give Guards an extra unit if they are not allowed to buy grenades. Posted by

- I didn't ask to add or take away anything ;-)

- Ooops, looks like I forgot to add the second escape hatch when I added the new deployment zones. Added now for future games. :)

- No plan works for me when my grenades go wrong.

- It looks like that one turned out ok for you.

- I thought that you will not touch the prisons, so I presumed that grenade on the floor are not primed. Of course I wrong, I had a bad feeling about this.

- Ha ha, you're not doing too badly. 2 of my men dead already, and maybe more soon.

- 1 grenade went wrong and another went terrible wrong. Both were thrown by my lieutenant with 54 cc skill. 2 of my units died cause of this :(
