Game 20839: petermock, Szczypop in 'Alien Hordes: Xenophobia'

- Well done and nicely played! Bang goes another 35 points to you. Attacking the building with some grenades was good thinking and a strategy worth repeating.

- If anyone else wants to see a good way to beat the aliens watch the replay of our game. Szczypop attacks the house with grenade/s and systematically approaches and enters the building. He does a cautious but bold sweep and wins the game.

- Nicely done. I still think both alien hordes games are a little unbalanced in favour of the humans, but no one else seems to think so... And Peter doesn't seem to want to prove me wrong ;-)

- I agree with Jez, humans have the edge. If everyone plays like Szczypop and I can't counter the strategy then it's alien retirement home for me! Hokunda and I still going to test Xenophobia for balancing issues. Jez if you were to balance the games what measures would you take?

- Still avoiding the challenge then? ;) I'd just reduce the credits in both, maybe by about 30. The problem is that that would make it even harder for less experienced players (they are missions where newbies struggle as the humans and experienced players struggle as the aliens, against opponents of similar skill).

- Saying that, the human side is much more exposed to random elements, positioning of aliens, explosion radii, grenade mis-throws, opp fire randomness (which effects both sides) etc. I wouldn't play it if I thought it was particularly unbalanced, it's only very slight, and obviously I always post games in pairs as both sides, so have no guilt about my wins. Maybe no change is needed, but I'd be happy to play with less credits.

- Hi Szczypop, I really enjoyed our game and your thinking paid off. If more aliens had survived your grenade attack would that alter the outcome? Another game another time!

- Avoidance not my style. Just on ice, the Hokunda games not aliens! I really like playing against him, got my respect. I agree with what you say. I wouldn't want to put new people off the mission and the humans have a lot to deal with... As for balance issues I can handle the current set up. Though you should never feel guilty about wins Jez. It's good to have tough players offering an inspiring stimulating challenge. Keep things lively:)

- I've had a little think about xeno balance. Yep it works and can be refined further to make it fairer but the imbalance is built in due to asymmetrical nature of humans versus aliens. It's what makes this mission interesting, the difference between the 2 sides.

- Hmm, you seem to be being wilfully obtuse about my challenge ;) I don't feel guilty because I always play fair I think, with setting up games anyone can choose to play as either side. I want to play the best players as much as possible and try to vary my missions a lot, there are only a few I won't play coz I dislike them. I am also always at a disadvantage against death grenade users lol. Some missions have killer tactics (Alien Escape and The Big Push come to mind) but they should only work against someone once and when I was on the receiving end of them they really schooled me in SF tactics, so I have no guilt about using them ;)

- I think our differences are more complimentary than you realize. I think though if you have a problem with me, my game choices, opponent choices, league position or anything I'm doing feel free to say what you think. I get sense you are not happy with something?

- Sorry! God no, I wasn't having a go at you. I was just responding to your 'guilty' comment! As I've said to you before, I don't take the league table seriously and have no problem with how other players choose to play, it's just a game! I just get a bit anal with my own stats, it's purely personal though, I don't compare them with other people, I think it's impossible in this game, except for head-to-head records, and even those are pretty meaningless unless players take it in turns to choose their favourite missions :D

- Also, I've been accused of some pretty crazy stuff by one particular asshole, so I guess I want to be transparent about the way I play..., I probably shouldn't worry about it.

- Sure, no worries. For the sake of clarity, at present I don't play the human side in Xeno, a decision I made and stick to. There are players who don't like the one sidedness of this which I accept. I really do expect players to eventually out do me playing the aliens or I retire due to over playing the mission. If my league score got to 1000 unlikely but if it did I would most likely 'spend' the points playing risky missions or ask Steve for a zero rest. The reason I haven't played against you is that I'm simply saving the best to last.. That goes the same for Hokunda but Xenogate got me involved. Maybe one Titan at a time is enough?

- Ps. I have absolutely no problems with the way you play. Your string of double game offers keep a lot of happy players busy, the backbone of Stellar Forces. My style is naturally eccentric, that I can't help!

- Fair enough :) I don't really understand the not wanting to play the best players thing, surely that's what makes it fun - the challenge and learning new stuff? And I'm not the best by far at most missions, but if you don't want to play me that's cool, you're not the only one :(

- I want to play you, just not at the moment that's all. Learning plenty from new players from the Campaign. We're bound to meet there on the battlefield soon. Nothing personal, I haven't offered Herod a Xeno game but we're currently fighting for a sector.
