Game 24354: paasque, petermock in 'Rebelstar Alien Hordes (beta)'

- Sorry Paasque that was too easy and not a fault of yours. This is why I want longer blocks and small out buildings for increased cover outside in the ruined base version. To balance out the map for both sides the aliens need more cover outside and the humans less inside the base. Bear with me while I sort the design out.

- Looking forward to your design.

- I think your ideas for the current map are worth pursuing. Pick up point I would like to try.

- I've only played this mission a couple of times but I thought it was nice and balanced! The Old Base mission seemed very unbalanced in favour of the aliens (Steve, did you see the detector idea?), and I'm not too keen on the new Xenophobia one (I think the map is too big, it makes a dull draw too much of a possibility with the victory conditions). This one I really liked though ;)

- Glad you like the game. Paasque has done an amazing creative achievement so far. There are teething problems that are being worked on by Paasque. We have not had a dull draw or game so far. I am making alterations for a ruined base 2nd Xeno version which will have Out buildings and other structures as we can not have the marines standing on the edge of the map looking like dicks:) Both Xeno versions may have mission objectives added. But they are still early in development. The missions are at the moment leaning towards fun but the strategic balancing etc is being thought about. If you want a detector it would be a great addition. I would like beefed up flame throwers and C4. C4 too heavy or delicate mechanism to throw but primed and dropped with a bigger blast radius than an AP100 which the large map size can take. If you want to create your own Rebel Star version that would be exciting.

- I can't unfortunately as I don't have a pc, I would love to do some mission design :( I'm just commenting objectively on missions currently available to play, no offense meant to the creators, whose hard work I totally appreciate, I guess the comments are aimed more at Steve than you guys :)

- That's ok no offence taken, more filling you in and letting people know the games are being worked on. Actually I am using phone to design the risky 2nd base idea. But Paasque is doing all the real hard work. The current games I've only had a slight idea input. I think a finely tuned mission with this immense map will take more time to get right. One of the first things we had to tone down were the gas cannisters in the hanger. If one was shot then half the base was obliterated in a chain reaction! Have a good weekend

- Cheers, you too. I think 'immense' is one of the problems. The size of the maps can make hunting down the enemy boring, as well as virtually impossible for the marines because of fatigue.

- It is sometimes boring, without a goal inside the mission, I did think that a escape field for the marines to reach, would spice it up a little. Marines starting top, aliens coming from the sides, and a pickup zone bottom, without any blocks bottom of the map, so aliens cant hide and just wait for the humans.

- That sounds cool. The one time I played the Xenomorph version of this mission as the humans was against you. It would have been a boring draw if you hadn't done your suicidal attacking, I had 4 units and no grenades, entering the building to find you would have been a death wish. Although it didnt help that I couldn't see the victory points so didnt know how many aliens were left...
You should try Alien Containment and Egg Hunt, they are both good missions with escape objectives (for the aliens and humans respectively). There's Alien and Alien Escape too, though both of those are more limited tactically. Posted by

- Sorry, I meant this one, not Xenomorph, all these similar names are confusing! :D

- Now, I'm really confused, maybe I didn't, I meant the one where a draw was possible. The victory conditions for both this and Xenomorph now state that the humans win if turns expire. doesn't that make them the same mission? And, what's to stop the humans just sitting outside the base and waiting for the aliens?

- Ah, it's just the mission description that's wrong (in both of them). It's this one with the draw option, so my earlier comments were wrong, it's Xenomorph I liked (if the victory conditions are wrong and the aliens win if turns expire, otherwise my comments above about the humans staying outside still apply).

- He, had to look at the missions. The Old Base have solid walls, Aliens inside, and you can win by destroying 5 computers "never been done, I think..". Xeno have destructible walls aliens inside. Hordes have destructible walls and aliens outside, and some small map-changes, for aliens to enter the base. I think that if aliens are coming from the sides and maybe some from the bottom, humans will have to fight the aliens, and cant just run through the base, thats the idea for the mission. lets see how it plays.

- You mean sitting at the top, just waiting. No weapons to start with, and weapons to pick up inside the could force make humans to move... Balance it out so weapons will be reachable before aliens can kill humans.

- So the humans do win if turns expire in Xenomorph? In which case I don't like that either :D
Yes, currently there is no reason for the humans to enter the building, in fact it would be crazy if they did... Posted by
