- Looks like I made the fatal mistake of not splitting my aliens up. I forgot they exploded when killed!

- I did wonder, not having played as the aliens I didn't know what that was all about. My first reaction was "oops, was that supposed to happen...."

- I might change it so that aliens are not affected by other exploding aliens (to make it more realistic).

- Sounds like a good plan.

- Great game frazzmac, I thought I was doomed after Steve wiped out so many of my units. Unfortunately I think Steve has forgotten to assign VP to the computers. I've destroyed all 4 but got no VPs and the game hasn't ended. :(

- Bugger, well done. I thought Dr Lareela might have put up more of a fight than that. He must take the consequences...

- I was expecting more of a resistance in the computer room myself. It will be interesting to see the movements of our troops after the game has ended.

- Ooops. It looks like no "owner" was allocated to the computers (but parties that shall remain nameless ;) ), but I've changed the code so that an owner isn't required where it doesn't matter who destroys them, like in this mission. Deadlime now has 100 VPs. Frazzmac, would you mind starting your turn and ending it again, to trigger the game to check for a winner?

- I think the Marsec corp should have less units, as the Rebels need to defend 5 points in the map and thus get spread quite thinly. I think that the aliens probably have the right amount (esp. since they won't kill themselves now). What do you think?

- It's a very tough mission to balance. A real 'paper - scissors - stone' scenario.
My initial concern was that the Rebels might be too strong. I feel the Marsec corp have a very tough task and I was very surprised to win. The Marsec have 4 exits which they also need to defend from the Aliens who could quite easily slip past the Rebels. As well as defending these exits, they must attack the central computers which could be very heavily defended if the Rebels choose to pull eveyone back. It's a fine balance for them to decide how much emphesis they should commit to attack and defence. They are also up against quite a strict time limit too.
The Rebels have the advantage of time on their side as well as an extra man. If they gamble and leave the Marsec to deal with the Aliens they would be very tough for the Marsec to beat. (of course it's a gamble because if the Aliens sneak past the Marsec then the Rebels lose).
Concidering the outcome I would say that maybe the balance is about right. Maybe we should try a few more games using different sides before we come to a final conclusion? Why don't you try playing as the Marsec corp, Steve? :)
frazzmac - how do you feel about the balance? Posted by

- I think the balance is OK for the Rebels and probably Marsec. I should have won that but I made two schoolboy errors late in the game - hands up on that one.
It's quite a strange one. The Aliens only real strategy is to sneak out, but with 27 total enemy units, its a helluva task, even given the size of the map.
I think the main tactic for the Rebels is to storm in towards the map and take the computer room. Any Aliens which they don't sweep up, you have to hope that Marsec will get. You can't hope to cover the map (and not die spectacularly doing so)
My main problem was I dithered for several turns trying to decide the best way to move to defend the computer room (and changed my mind at least twice). I then cocked up by moving several units the wrong way (yeah, yeah, I know).
Marsec's first turns are probably more about positioning until the Aliens and Rebels have their main contact. At this point (self-exploding Aliens excepted) Marsec will probably outnumber the Rebels, but there will still be spare Aliens too, so probably equal overall. At this point the Rebels and Aliens could almost co-operate.
I think it's a great concept for a mission, because of the partially shared goals between the sides. I do wonder if the Aliens could ever actually win? Both Rebels and Marsec have to alternate between attack and defense, and the timing of this is probably critical (more so for Marsec due to the time limit).
Happy to have a bash again, maybe do same sides now that the suicidal Aliens are no more? Or happy to change too. This is good stuff, enjoying SF a lot :-) Posted by

- Fair enough, I'll start a new game then.
