I forgot to mention this earlier Steve, but after a few missions of game testing I think the Aliens could do with an extra unit to bump their numbers up to a nice even 10.
I'm not sure the new hearing feature is such a great thing for this mission either. I though it might help the Aliens to keep track of the humans, but instead all it seems to do is make it impossible to sneak up on them, which is pretty much the only real tactic available for the Aliens.
Or maybe the Aliens need to be quicker for it to work effectively? I know there is a random element to their stats, but I seemed to have been lumbered with a right bunch of slow ass, overweight, gammy legged freaks in my last couple of games!
No probs, I'll bump it up to 10, although I don't think even that number is enough to enable me to win at that mission!
I'll make the "hearing" feature an option that can only be selected on certain missions. However, I might extend it on other missions so that shots (etc) are heard, and maybe even "death screams". What do you think about that?

I'm certain the hearing feature will be a good one once we have gotten used to it. Personally I'm finding it quite hard to suddenly adapt to such a big change in tactics, my biggest problem being at the moment I keep "forgetting" about it. Disabling it from certain missions will probably only lead to more confusion (and forgetfulness on my behalf).
I like the idea of gunshots or explosions being heard across the whole map - this could also lead us to the option of having 1 or 2 (pistol and a rifle) silenced weapons. It also makes knives/daggers/swords become a lot more useful.
Rather than banning the hearing option from certain missions, I think the problem with Aliens suffering by not being able to sneak up on their pray would be better solved by making them silent. I quite like the idea of the Aliens being able to move without making a sound. I think it would make them a lot more appealing to players considering they are losing out on the option of using equipment.
That sounds like a better option than what I thought of. I'll make that change soon. As for gunshot sounds, I'll probably give each weapon a "sound radius", rather than cover the whole map. It should make for more interesting (/complicated) tactics.

Great. I was going for simplicity when I said the whole map, but each weapon having it's own individual sound radius would be even better.
This might make the hideously underpowered Laser weapons more worthwhile too, as I would expect a Laser to be fairly quiet when compared to a gunshot. This will make weapons selection a lot more interesting and tactically important. :)
(edit) I was forgetting that you have actually balanced Laser Weapons a lot better than was originally done in Laser Squad - but I'm sure you catch my meaning. :)
